More and more athletes, at all levels, are beginning to take advantage of opportunities in their respective off-seasons to work on their strength, speed, power, and agility along with developing and refining their specific sport skills.  The days of just showing up for tryouts without putting in significant offseason training are over for most competitive athletes.  The offseason is a great time to make significant strides in strength, speed, power, agility, and skill as well continue to build confidence, but for many athletes training ends when their respective sport season begins.  At Sports Reality we encourage the development of these gains year round to maximize our athlete’s potential.More and more athletes, at all levels, are beginning to take advantage of opportunities in their respective off-seasons to work on their strength, speed, power, and agility along with developing and refining their specific sport skills.  The days of just showing up for tryouts without putting in significant offseason training are over for most competitive athletes.  The offseason is a great time to make significant strides in strength, speed, power, agility, and skill as well continue to build confidence, but for many athletes training ends when their respective sport season begins.  At Sports Reality we encourage the development of these gains year round to maximize our athlete’s potential.

When the sport season begins, what happens to the qualities that have been developed through all the hard work in the offseason? Ultimately, they diminish unless specific work is done to maintain or build upon these qualities.  Athletes will start to lose significant levels of maximum strength within 14 days and significant levels of speed can start to diminish within 5 days after training for those qualities ends

This negatively impacts the athlete as days pass and the season continues.  Consequently, athletes that don’t train during the season are at their weakest during the most important part of the season which is playoffs, state meets, championships, and/or bowl games.  This typically occurs at least 3-4 months (12-16 weeks) after off-season training has ended.  Without proper in season performance training the athlete/s will be at their weakest, slowest and most vulnerable for injury at those times rather than being at their best!

The answer to this problem is to be sure that a great in-season sports performance program is in place.  The good news is that to maintain your strength, speed, power and movement mechanics gains it takes far less time than it did to gain them in the first place.  Even just 1-2 times a week can be very effective in addition to the sport practices to maintain strength, speed and power.  In season athletes need quality not quantity.

Our certified & educated Sports Performance Coaches can implement a scientifically based program to keep your athletes speed & force producing abilities from diminishing as well as keeping their movement mechanics efficient.  This will help to keep them strong, fast, explosive, and injury free.

Sports Reality is here to ensure you have a plan in place for developing year round progress and prevent the loss of strength, speed, and power so you or your athlete is at their best when the stakes are the highest.  We have added additional training blocks before school and after most practices end to further accommodate those athletes in season.  We have taken the excuse out for those who couldn’t make during our original times, now it’s on you to be here twice a week.  Don’t be the one wondering why you aren’t where you were at the beginning of the season.  Now you know.
